Save the Date: Oregon WinterFest Returns Feb. 12-14, 2016 with expanded event footprint and NEW Fire Pit People’s Choice Award
Bend, Ore.— The 2016 Oregon WinterFest will return to the Old Mill District in Bend, Ore. February 12-14. The massive celebration of all things winter will bring national music acts, snow sports, a fire pit competition, ice sculptures, the OMSI Kids Area, fine art, delicious food, beer, wine and so much more.
Event producers are excited to announce that they will expand the footprint of the event, with an extension on SW Shevlin Hixon Drive that will culminate in front of the Art Station, Art Central’s Creative Learning Center. The Fire Pit Competition will also be larger and more impressive than years past, with more than 20 pits and sculptures lining the Deschutes River and a new People’s Choice Award.

Fire Pit Competition Presented By Chevrolet of Bend: Returning for its fourth year, the incredibly popular Fire Pit Competition returns with more artists than ever before. More than 20 Fire Pits and Fire Sculptures will blaze along the Deschutes River in the Old Mill District. New this year will be the People’s Choice Award. Formerly held to professional judging only, the competition will this year open up and ask festivalgoers to vote on their favorite submissions too!
Experiential Fire Arts Area: Central Oregon Metal Arts Guild (COMAG) will once again sponsor this interactive area. Hands-on metal and hot glass demonstrations plus 20-minute presentations by Fire Pit Competition artists, as well as “poofer” games, and a community metal sculpture project designed and facilitated by Orion Forge.
Fire King and Ice Queen Return! After watching her Ice Throne melt in the unseasonable temperatures of Oregon WinterFest 2015, the Ice Queen’s coronation will this year take place on an impressive, custom-crafted metal throne to rival the Fire King’s towering perch. The royal pair will once again make surprise appearances throughout Bend prior to the opening of Oregon WinterFest 2016, as well as throughout the festival.
Motor Sports Spectacle: The motorcross team Metal Mulisha will hit the big air track and will showcase their sickest tricks and death-defying stunts
during BIG AIR shows. This world-famous motorcross team brings some of its best riders for your viewing pleasure.
Music: Live music announcements. This will be a showcase of great, national talent. Music will be announced by the end of November.
OMSI Kids Area: Interactive science and play area with activities facilitated by Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. Bouncy houses, games, and live entertainment.
Marketplace: Arts and crafts, fashion and specialty foods will fill the marketplace with more vendors than ever before.
Food: Showcasing the best of Central Oregon’s food festival scene, the 2016 Oregon WinterFest will feature more chefs, more food carts, and more flavor.
Friday, Feb. 12 Special Events:
Whole Foods Wine Walk: Embark on a tasting tour of fine wines as you stroll through the Old Mill District on the banks of the crystalline Deschutes River. Friday night in the Old Mill District shops.
Saturday, Feb. 13 Special Events:
Kids Hot Cocoa Run: Each Prince and Princess will run from station to station, building a cup of hot cocoa that is good enough for royalty. Stations will include fun ingredients to make the perfect cup of hot cocoa. When the cross the finish line they will be awarded the final touch, the hot cocoa! This event will leave the little runners feeling like they rule the world.
Sunday, Feb. 14 Special Events:
Royal Run 5k and 10k: This Royal Run will feature a beautiful run through the Old Mill area and along the Deschutes River, with a mixture of paved paths and groomed trails. As in previous years, there will be a new twist to this year’s race.
